This week’s Finish Strong Friday is brought to you courtesy of the good folks at Absolute Motivation. Check out their YouTube channel for more similar videos. Please take a few minutes to reflect on this video, and then go out and make the most of your Friday!
During the video is a segment from an Alan Watts lecture that I have always found enlightening:
“When we finally got down to something the individual says he really wants to do, I will say to him: you do that and forget the money. Because if you say that getting the money is the most important thing, you will spend your life completely wasting your time. You will be doing things you don’t like doing in order to go on living; that is to continue doing things you don’t like doing. That is stupid. Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way.”
What Watt’s says is something that is often forgotten in the modern world: that the things you do to get money are more important than the money itself. Those motivated by a passion for the work they are doing will be far more successful than those simply motivated by monetary greed. If you can find a vocation that doesn’t feel like work because you thoroughly enjoy doing it, you will do better work, leading to greater success.
